BUILD STARTS!

Hi everyone,

Just to keep you up to date, if you haven’t already noticed, but we have started our new headquarters build!

This is great news and it’s really pleasing to see a positive start to the build just as the ‘nice’ weather has finally arrived. Our builder has already been very busy on site with his digger and has so far dug the foundation trenches and the groundwork’s for the water services. So, we should start to see the building take shape in the weeks to come!

If you couldn’t make our ‘Spade in the Ground’ ceremony on Wednesday, the photos are on the website. We had a great ‘first’ spade in the ground by Luis Thompson and Daniel Wilson, our two youngest Beavers, and we invited along representatives from our two major sponsors, Rugby Benevolent Fund, Greame Fuller, and DHL, Les Fletcher. Together with Rugby Borough Council, they have provided a significant portion of the funding so our thanks go out to them.

We still need to keep working on the funding, so look out for the fundraisers coming our way, a Race Night is planned and a ‘Mile of Pennies’ will be great little fundraiser for the youngsters to get involved in.

We’ll be posting updates and photos on the build progress so keep checking back!

Many thanks for all the support from everyone, every contribution, whether its money or time, is really appreciated. I’m sure we’ll have a great new headquarters for the 12th and the youngsters will be able to enjoy their scouting in a great new location.

Hi everyone, just to let you know we had a great time delivering the Christmas Post around our patch. It was a hectic couple of days but I think everyone had a good time. The best news is that we recently received our share of the proceeds from District and we earned £380. Many thanks to all those who went out and delivered a round. Looking forward to next year already!

Hi everyone, just to let you know we had a great month fundraising, on top of the great fundraising from the Firework event and the Chilli and Quiz evening, we have been very fortunate to have been awarded some more grants. The Foyle Foundation have awarded us a grant of £5000, and the Baron Davenport Charity have also donated £1000 to the cause.

This is a great boost to our fundraising for our scout hut and brings our total raised so far to….

£126,000

One of the next big funding events is the Scout Christmas Post; look out for the flyers going out this week. I’ll be asking for volunteers for some help delivering post around our patch so any help will be really appreciated.

Hi everyone, just to let you know we had a great fundraising event at the Rugby Round Table Firework show in town on Saturday. We had our stall selling glow in the dark and flashing novelty toys. The trade was a little hectic at times but we managed to sell out of most of our toys and made a profit of …

This is a great boost to our fundraising for our scout hut and brings our total raised so far to….

Don’t forget the Chilli and Quiz evening next Saturday, 10th November, so get a team together and head out for a great evening. There’ll be more fundraising opportunities in the near future so keep your eyes open and if you would like to get involved then just speak to your section leader or get in contact with any of the Exec committee.

Community Week Launch

2012-06-16 – 12th Rugby Scouts use Community Week to launch Hut Project

It’s Scout Community Week and all over the country scout groups are getting out and about and getting jobs done in their community. Scout Community Week is a UK wide fundraising initiative that is supported by B&Q. Every scout who takes part will receive an exclusive B&Q Scout Community Week 2012 badge.

The 12th Rugby Scout Group approached local school Boughton Leigh Juniors to see whether there was work to be done and a tidy-up plan for the school grounds was quickly established. All sections got down to some hard work and a great deal of litter was collected from the school grounds.

Head teacher Carl Thornton commented “we are delighted to see the Scouts helping to keep our school looking clean and tidy. We pride ourselves at Boughton Leigh on our relationship with the local community and hope that the Scout’s exciting new project will benefit all concerned”.

Carl was referring to the project to build a new Headquarters for the 12th Scout Group in the grounds of the Junior School. This will also provide valuable extra space for music and drama during the school day and a meeting place for the Rugby Amateur Transmitting Society. Initial work has started with the digging of foundation test holes and a site survey has taken place. A noticeboard showing sponsors has also been erected.

The 12th have appointed a building contractor, Principal Building & Consultancy Limited, to manage the project. Managing Director Karl Pargetter is looking forward to making a start and said “I have done a number of projects in the Brownsover area and this is a great opportunity to build something that is of value to the community. I am working with the Scouts to identify more sponsors and to rally the local building trade to support this project”.

Scouts Project Manager Ian Warburton explained how the project had come about, “the 12th currently meet in the Brownsover Community Centre which is due to be demolished as part of the regeneration plan for Brownsover. We have always aimed to build our own HQ and we have worked with the school, Rugby Borough Council, Warwick County Council and Rugby Amateur Transmitting Society to make this a reality. Now that we have Principle Building & Consultancy onboard we look forward to completing the project in early 2013”.

Hi everyone, just another quick note to keep you up to date on the progress on our new headquarters. We’ve been a little bit busy applying to charitable trusts for grants to help us with our funding. Well, I’d like to say we have been a little bit successful. The William A. Cadbury Charitable Trust has awarded a grant of £500 to our fund!

It’s a good start and adds to our fund, we’ll keep on going with the grant fundraising…

Hi everyone, just a quick note to keep you up to date on the progress on our new headquarters. No doubt some of you have seen the activity on the school field today which was very exciting to see and Bob has posted some pictures on our Facebook page for you. It’s great to see some real action at long last. What you saw was our contractor organising the digging of some test holes to establish the condition of the soil, just to make sure it is OK to take the building, together with a site survey to measure the topography of the site.

We have been really busy lately with the planning activity, so far we have been looking at various options for the building and after much discussion and sleepless nights we have agreed that the best option is to use a local building firm. This is Principal Building and Consultancy Ltd, proprietor is Karl Pargetter. Karl is a very experienced builder and has undertaken many sizeable projects around the area so we are safe in his hands.

We’ve had a number of meetings with Karl and I must say Karl is as excited as we are on getting the project off to a start. So far we are working on getting the plans drawn up so we can progress onto getting our planning applications in. Once we have the plans ready we’ll get them on this page for you all to see!

Look out for the sign to be put up on the site of our headquarters……
